[edit] ERP with Rich clients
[edit] OpenERP (formerly tinyerp)
Rich client (gtk, maybe kde) under linux and windows + server + web client. Based on python/turbogear.
They have good support for French, and some KDE-related things(!) in screenshots, though it's not very clear yet what this is.
They have some documentation, although I haven't proofread it yet.
Both rich client and web client. Both are clean/good. Huge number of modules. (stocks, french account, invoices, contacts, mails). Can only use postgresql.
Overkill for SME.
[edit] openMFG and postbooks
postbooks is the free version and openmfg the $$ one. The company behind those is 'xtuple' and it appeared several times in sf top 10 lists.
It uses a rich client (qt4 : linux/win/windows) and a database (two-tiers).
svn easily available from sf (though it's very very slow, as often with sf), using the url https://postbooks.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/postbooks/xtuple/trunk
There's no README or whatever, running 'qmake' (as there are *.pro files) gives "Project ERROR: Could not set the OPENRPT_DIR qmake variable." and not other helpful message.
[edit] http://opensi.org/
Use a (xul) firefox plugin to connect to the server. Not really 'rich client'.
Focused on accounting. Seems good, very professional. Some accoutants have helped designing it.
I was not able to test. There's no demo available online, but i got cvs sources (2005-12-13)
Now there is a demo, which doesn't work (2006) Their bugtracking doesn't work (gna), but the forum seems to be useful.
I managed to install the plugin, but never managed to connect to the demo "error 403"
2009-10-06 : tried to install the last 'client' and got the message "OpenSi 4.5.3 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 3.5.3."
They really have a problem with the QA
[edit] ERP / web-based only
[edit] openbravo
No demonstration ? this is a .com Supposed to be for 'small and medium sized companies', but it seems to be focused on not-that-small companies.
pro:
- they use mercurial, and continuous integration, and even give instruction for gentoo setup.
- nice screenshots, maybe less bloated/more clear than what you usually find in such software
[edit] pimengest
php, pgsql
free& gpl, but doesn't do accounting. Everything else seems cool. Do CRM, billing, suppliers payements, stocks, time-tracking, permissions.
The demo site doesn't work (2004-11-16)
[edit] openaguila
said to be easy to use. But is never cited as competitor by the others (?)
You need to subscribe to reach the demo.
[edit] compiere
Not for very small companies.
only web-based?
[edit] tine20
Demo on http://demo.tine20.org. Web-based.
good:
- Nominated at "Trophe du libre 2009".
- they have (phpunit based) unit tests
- long term goal mention use of some technology to enable offline working (something like google gears)
- slick interface.
bad:
- php/zend
2009-10-06 : tested the demo, editing a contact makes some js error and blocks the application. I dont know if this is possible to add several notes+date to a contact.
[edit] openbluelab
Not a lot yet, but promising. No rich client ?
[edit] neogia
Developped in java, accessed through a web browser. The main interest is the financial module, called tercompta, created by, for, and according to French chart of account.
[edit] dolibarr
php,mysql,apache... Most notably for french companies.
invoice , taxes(tva), bare minimum on accounting
Once used by orzel for his invoices, but the software is a nightmare to maintain/update. i gave up.
[edit] CRM only
[edit] sugar
[edit] vtiger
LAMP. a fork from sugarcrm (reason : sugar not free enough)
tested on january 8th, 2009, version 5.0.4:
- installation ok (from source), though it needs 4 minutes to do "stuff", they wont tell you what it is doing and that sounds bad to me.
- nice interface
- impossible to create a product (blank page with "Action name is missing. Please check the action name.").
- there's an 'inventory' module, but seems only for reselling objects, not for internal stuff.
- lot of php errors/warning, the installation process says not to log/display them...
- it seems the CRM module can only import CSV data for contacts (in which specific variant ?)
- settings only allow jpeg for log, and once given a jpeg, doesn't display it (html shows "" for the image filename)
pros:
- has free connectors for outlook, msoffice and thunderbird.
cons:
2009-10-06 : the demonstration is looking great, though as there's no 'fake' data it's quite hard to get an idea. Got quite a lot of bugs, such as "Fatal error: Call to a member function FetchRow() on a non-object in /home/vtiger/demo/fr/demo/include/database/PearDatabase.php on line 42" when clicking on "prospect" or "TCPDF error: Unsupported image type: gif" when trying to export pdf.
[edit] eggcrm
The webpage contains screenshots, demo, documentation and download, though lot of stuff is in French only.
LAMP-based.
Used and recommended by a freelance sales manager working for one of orzel's client.
It's the new kid on the block.
pros:
- said to better fits the needs for SME
- there are import/export features, even though quite basic
cons:
- not considering offline mode is a design decision (see this forum post
- (as such) no thunderbird/outlook connectors
- each installation i've done, i've had problem creating the 'admin1' user, which prevent connecting once installed. Has been there for >1 year.
- the "free" software you download has limited functionality and contains ads for updating...
2009-10-06 : i'm impressed by the demonstration. It works, it's much simpler than others, and it's even beautiful.
