XBMC
Nice interface, maybe hard to install. to try.
Pros:
- ebuild in official portage tree (media-tv/xbmc)
- remote available on the android market.
cons:
- ebuild fails to install
- requires a full-blown 3d setup, this is not optional. This is a no way for my old epia board :-(
Boxee
Started as a fork of XBMC, and now has its own reputation. But still not enough to get a gentoo package in the official tree (a request for it though).
I did not test it yet, but i guess the same limitations from XBMC apply.
Canola
Started as a media center for mobile devices (mainly nokia). As of march 2011, the page states that the final version will be released in Q1 2008. This is frightening.
Moovida (formerly elisa)
to try.
Nice interface. I've tried it (when it was still called elisa) and the installation was a nightmare. Not in gentoo anymore (elisa was), though it is available in an overlay : 'thelinux'.
Nothing related on the android market.
Freevo
Used by orzel for years, written in python, ugly interface, hard to configure. Too much oriented toward TV and video recording, both of them i dont use.
Exactly one remote application is available on the android market.
MythTV
Tried by orzel, ugly to setup. I gave up. Too much oriented toward TV and video recording, both of them i dont use.
Remote available on the android market.
No
